Fit Friday: Get the Glow from Within

At Rosie Toes we believe that beauty starts from within.  We nourish our spirit and soul through kindness, gentleness, patience and love.  Everyday through our behaviors, actions and attitudes we are able to share and radiate beauty.  We also apply this same concept when it comes to nourishing our bodies.  It's important to feed our bodies the right nutrients to nourish us from the inside out.

In the winter, our skin becomes increasingly dry and itchy.  This is an essential time to make sure that we are providing our bodies with the nutrients and hydration it needs to fight the dry conditions.  In leu of this, we are sharing our personal tips on how to incorporate foods into your meals that will nourish your skin from the inside out!  Our philosophy is since we have to eat why not feed our body nutrients that will keep our skin feeling and looking radiant!  Spring is quickly approaching and now is a great time to get your skin in prime condition for the Summer months.

1.  Fill your Cup:  During the winter months it is important to hydrate your body with extra water.  In the winter, your skin looses a ton of moisture between having the heat on at home and in the car.  The combination of the frigid outdoor air and the dry heat inside leaves our skin dry and chapped.  A great tip to ensure you're getting enough hydration is by incorporating soups, smoothies and caffeine-free teas into your meals.  Drinking plenty of water will help your body remove waste and toxins that can lead to dull dry skin.  We like to add frozen berries to our water glasses for a fruity-twist or a couple cucumber slices for a spa-like treat.

2.  Go Nuts:  Nuts and seeds contain essential omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins A, B and E, monounsaturated fats and minerals, and a list of antioxidants.  Each of these help to hydrate your skin, promote elasticity, regenerate cells, help reduce inflammation, and protect against pollutants and free radicals.  They are also a great source of protein that provides your body with the energy it needs.  Another great source of omega-3 is fish, however, at rosie toes we are vegetarians.

3.  Eat your Veggies:  Leafy greens contain an impressive amount of iron, omega-4 fatty acids, and vitamins A, B, and E which all help protect your skin and improve your immune system. They are also filled with phytochemicals and folate that help to hydrate skin and keep it smooth. Orange and yellow veggies in particular contain beta-carotene and is notoriously great for skin.  zit is an antioxidant, which helps fight dry skin and protect the skin from harmful sun rays and environmental damage.  We love a bowl of steamed veggies or a salad drizzled with healthy olive oil and paired with an avocado.  Note:  Extra Virgin Olive Oil is full of vitamin E and good fats, and will moisturize skin both from the inside (eaten) and out (topical application).

4.  Happy Tummy:  More and more research is revealing that our gut health has an important factor in our overall health, and it shows on our skin.  Probiotics help to calm gut inflammation and have  calming effects on skin redness and irritation.  Probiotics are beneficial microorganisms that send signals and stop your cells from reacting to bad bacteria.  You can purchase probiotics over the counter or you can make this superfood with an assortment of fermented veggies.   We like to add Sauerkraut to our salad for a crunchy and appetizing dish.

5.  Be Fruitful:  Fruits are filled with high levels of vitamins A and C, powerful antioxidants that replenishes nutrients in skin, promote collagen production, and help keep your skin supple and firm.  Eating water-dense tropical fruit, like cantaloupe, mangoes, oranges, pineapple, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, watermelon, and grapefruits is a great way to hydrate and protect your skin.  Each of them contain skin-boosters, and make for a delicious snack.  Did you know Avocados are also a fruit?  They are a great source of vitamins C, E, and monounsaturated fats, which help your skin lock in moisture.  Like nuts and seeds, they also provide a great source of omega-3 fatty acids.  Our favorite avocado recipe is our Creamy Avocado Pasta, we will be sharing the recipes soon!

Have you noticed a connection between your skin and what you eat?

Hugs and Kisses,

Tiffany

Luxe For Less: Savvy Sunnies

At Rosie Toes our go-to accessory for looking chic on the run is a fab pair of sunnies.  Sunnies are a girl's best friend on those days when we have to run out the door and don't have time for mascara.  Recently, I've been admiring Victoria Beckham's darling metallic aviators in high-voltage fuchsia; at $550 they are definitely an investment piece.  Splurging on a great pair of sunglasses can really up your accessory game and can offer a level of artistry that inexpensive sunglasses may not.  However, as much as I love a glam pair of sunnies, I tend to somehow either break them in my bag or misplace them!  So, when I find a budget-friendly alternative, I'm enthusiastic.  The other day I was in H&M and I stumbled across a pair of sunglasses that are very similar in style to the Beckham aviators I've been craving!  Take a look for yourselves....

Luxe: Classic Aviator sunglasses • Victoria Beckham

Less:  Gold Sunglasses  • H&M

I've been wearing this H&M pair all week and I'm so happy with them.  For $7.95 a pair, you can afford to buy an extra pair of these chic aviators, just in case you happen to misplace a pair!  They will have you looking and feeling chic on the run plus they won't break the bank!  Whether you love the look so much that you are willing to invest a little more or you're a budget babe not quite ready to splurge, there is a style at every price point.

What are your favorite sunnies for on the go days?

Hugs and Kisses,

Tiffany

Fit Friday: Girl's Guide For Attaining Goals

Having a fitness regime is great way to boost your mood and metabolism during the cold months.  Plus, now is a great time to start kicking your workout routine into high gear.  The snow will soon be melting and it will be time to unpack your skirts, shorts and sundresses.  With this in mind, we wanted to share with you with some tangible tips to build strength and obtain your fitness goals in time for Spring!

Whether beginning an exercise program, or stepping up your current routine; it's important to listen to your body and take it slow.  A few tips to build up strength and obtain your goals are:

1. Set obtainable, realistic goals:  Goals are an important way to help you get in the best shape possible.  Having a specific goal that is both obtainable and realistic is a great tool to measure your progress.  Setting goals that you can reach in a realistic time frame will ensure that you meet your goal, and will keep you motivated to push forward.  When setting your goal, make sure that it is realistic for you.   Setting a goal that is unrealistic for you will lead to discouragement.  Instead, set a goal that you can envision yourself achieving.  It should challenge you but overwhelm you.  Also, make your goal as specific as possible so you know exactly what you are working towards and can achieve it.

2.  Plan for active Rest:  While having a motivation to workout everyday is great, you should also make sure to give your body the recovery it needs.  At Rosie Toes, we make sure to incorporate a full day of recovery and rejuvenation after a long run or an intense workout!  It is actually a small goal we set for ourselves.  Active rest is done by incorporating small activities that will provide your body with the rest it deserves.  Some great ideas are engaging in superlight biking, walking, swimming, and stretching.  Go ahead and add on that pedicure!  By allowing yourself small rewards, you will be able to add more exercise into daily routine.  Active rest also provides you with a powerful way to get even more out of your workouts.  However, make sure that you don't turn an active-rest day into another full-on workout, that will defeat the  purpose.  Allowing time for your body to rejuvenate is extremely important  Your body needs only a little movement and variety to achieve optimal physical and psychological recovery.  Also, make sure that on your active rest days you are still fueling your body with healthy nutritional foods.

3.   Balance Nutrition:  Nutritional balance means that you consume just the right amount of calories, macronutrients and micronutrients.  Incorporating a healthy mix of nutrients into your meals ensures that you will be fueling your body with the energy it needs.  Similar to a machine, your body needs the proper fuel to function.  Macronutrients include fat, protein and carbohydrates; each are broken down for energy during digestion. In order to achieve a balanced diet you should consume just the right amount of each of these macronutrients.  Another component for achieving optimal nutritional balance is getting adequate amounts of micronutrients. These types of nutrients include vitamins and minerals; they are the essentials building blocks for bodily functions but do not provide calories. In order to obtain all the micronutrients your body needs, you should consume a variety of foods from all food groups every day.  We like to fuel up on carbs in the morning, that way we know that they are going directly toward providing us with energy.  For lunch, we incorporate healthy fiber into our meals.  Fiber has so many great benefit and keeps you full longer.  We choose to restrict high levels of carbs after 4pm.  Instead, we reach for low carb treats while watching evening shows and catching up on emails.  For example, we'll make a delicious veggie snack, like roasted cauliflower.  Meals that are balanced, provide you with the right amount of energy and nutrients so you can achieve a healthy and confident body.

We find that sticking with a plan helps us to reach our goals when we are trying to eat healthy and get in shape. The most important thing to take from any plan is that it should become a daily routine and not just a fast way to lose weight.

What is your favorite cardio or fitness routine?

Hugs and Kisses

Chic Style: Believe in Pink

l love the changing of seasons and currently I'm eager for Springtime to arrive.  I'm craving the smell of fresh roses blooming and days spent soaking in the warm glowing sun!  The holiday cheer and sparkle has drifted and yet the snow remains.  In order to melt these winter blues away I'm sharing a few style tips to brighten up our wardrobes and add Spring to our steps.

Even with the cold blustering air still blowing, there are some great ways to slowly transition our thoughts and wardrobe into Spring.  A great tip to brighten up your winter wardrobe is by adding spring hues.  My favorite way to do this is by balancing warm layers with bright colors that can easily transition into the warmer temps.  For example, after the holiday season, I slowly begin this transition by trading sparkly sequins and shades of red for hues of pastel.  Now. is a great time to pull out your pastel pieces!  So, grab your pastel coat.... and kick those winter blues to the curb!

Pink Coat (sold out) • love this New York Coat I Leopard Leggings similar and similar I Platform Heels • Michael Kors I Sunnies • Valentino I Pearls • Nordstrom I craving these Faux Pearl Studs • Kate Spade I Coconut's Dog Carrier  • Petote

Another great tip to brighten your winter wardrobe is to add a touch of texture.  I love adding a little touch of leopard into a outfit.  It adds a flirty vibe and a little leopard can go a long way.  You can add a touch of leopard into your wardrobe with a cute clutch, flirty pants, a thin belt or a pair of flats.

Go ahead and pull out those pretty Spring hues and flirty textures!  Take a stroll by a flower shop and pick up a bouquet of flowers to brighten your day!  Invite a friend over for some tea and laughter.  Cheer up rosebuds, longer days and sunny skies are right around the corner!

What is your favorite tip to kick the winter blues to the curb?

Hugs and Kisses,

Tiffany
