Baby it's cold outside..... We love waking up to sparkly icicles and snowflakes on our window but the frigid temps also bring a pesky problem. We're talking about those irritating chapped lips that winter brings. Today we put together a list of tips and tricks that can work on healing those dry chapped lips and give you a soft kissable pout.
Hydrate
A main cause of dry chapped lip is dehydration. Dehydration can cause excessive lip dryness Your pout is thirsty and needs to be hydrated from the inside out! You should consume an average of two to three liters of water each day. It’s particularly important to increase your water intake during the winter. The frigid temps can actually be tougher on your skin than the summer sun.
Exfoliate
Exfoliating your lips every other week promotes healthy skin renewal so you can have a super soft pout. A couple of our favorite pout exfoliants are: Bliss Fabulips Sugar Lip Scrub, Fresh Sugar Lip Polish, Philosophy's Kiss Me, and Kiss Kiss. These exfoliants can help deflake your pucker and give you a soft kissable pout.
Moisturize
The key to a smooth and soft pout is to keep your lips moisturized. An important tip when buying a great lip product is to find a balm with natural ingredients. You want to avoid lip products that have an extensive list of chemicals as these could irritate and dry out your lips even more. We crave Jouer’s Lip Enhancer during the winter months. We make sure to carry a tube of it in every bag. We also really like Jo Malone™ 'Vitamin E' Lip Conditioner, Honest Organic Lip Balm, Maybelline Baby Lips, and Crème de Rose' Smoothing Plumping Lip Balm. Another tip is to apply a lip moisturizer on after you wash your face. Putting on moisturizer after you wash your face guarantees that your pout is hydrated after washing it clean.
Avoid Wetting Your Whistle
When your lips are dry it's easy to lick your lips for relief. The problem is licking chapped lips will only offer temporary relief. Licking your lips will only aggravate your pout causing them to become more chapped. The best solution is to carry a moisturizing lip balm with you throughout the day. When you get the urge to wet your your whistle grab your lip balm and whistle while you work!
Nourish from Within
A new study reveals that when your PH level is acidic it can lead to chapped lips. In order to restore you body's PH balance you should consume fruits and vegetables. I try to pack a lunch full of quick healthy snacks that I can chew on throughout the day. For example, I pack apples, grapes, celery, and cucumber. Another great trick is to press cold, sliced cucumber onto your pout for a couple minutes. Cucumber contains many beneficial healing properties that can help restore sore irritated lips.
